Bio of Dr. Jonathan
H. Magid, DVM, MS, DACVIM:
I graduated from the Colorado State University School
of Veterinary Medicine in May of 1990. After six years of practice in Utah, I
returned to school for residency training in Equine Medicine at University of
Illinois from 1996-1999.
As a resident at the University of Illinois, I was a
Clinical Instructor in Equine Medicine and a Master’s Degree Candidate. I
received advanced training in equine medicine, lameness diagnosis and treatment,
surgery, and dentistry. I passed the board exam and became a Diplomate of the
American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1999, and received my Master’s
Degree in 2002.
I have been a speaker at national and state meetings on
equine physiology. I have studied equine dentistry extensively, both through
short courses and working with Dr. Dean Scoggins and Dr. Gordon Baker at the
University of Illinois, and I have been an instructor in several dentistry
programs for veterinary students and veterinarians.
After completing the residency program, I headed west
to Montana, where I practiced veterinary medicine, and worked as a consultant
for Antech Diagnostics, a national veterinary diagnostic laboratory. I liked it
there a lot, but after six years, I felt like a change, and I moved to Texas in
the fall of 2005.
I have five horses of my own. One is an old retired
cutting horse I showed a bit (third place for the year in our division in the
Utah Cutting Horse Association in 1992). Two are nice saddle horses that I used
on the ranch in Montana and have shown in Ranch Horse Versatility, Reined
Cowhorse, and team roping competitions. I also have two young horses. One is an
American Quarter Horse that I hope to show in cutting, the other is an Arabian
that I hope to show in reined cowhorse classes.
